[comp.sys.cbm] Need help w/ ARC128 & CS-DOS

MLADAIR@MTUS5.BITNET (Matt Adair) (12/19/90)

I cant seem to get ARC128 to work for me. I assume that it has to be
loaded while CS-DOS is in memory, because thats the only time it will
even seem to run correctly. After that, none of the commands seem to
work. All I get are SYNTAX ERRORS. I cant even get arc/? to work.
Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong? I may have forgotten
something, but the directions are pretty sketchy, and this is the first
time that I have really experimented with any form of ARC.

You must first INSTALL the program into the RAMdisk as an internal
command. Type:

	INSTALL ARC128

If you like, rename ARC128 to ARC, so that the command is shorter to
type. Do this before you install, though.

10 bucks says I know what your problem is. I think I had the same one.
You see, like a good boy, I followed the instructions in the .txt
file, typing "arc/?", and got only SYNTAX ERRORs. The reason is: when
you type arc, CS-DOS looks for the file named "arc." However, the real
file is called "arc128" by default, so you need to type "arc128/?", instead
of "arc/?". This is true whether the file has been installed in RAM
or whether you are running it from disk.

Good luck!
