[comp.sys.cbm] REU expansion and what memory chips to use

scott@uwav1.u.washington.edu (03/03/91)

Few messages back, someone asked the question in regards to memory
chips that he/she was going to use to expaned his/her REU.
The question was whether or not it matter to use 120 ns chips
(a faster chip) than the 150 ns (the type that REU comes with)
to expand the REU memory. The answer is definately not.
The only rule that you need to follow is that the chips meets the
computer's specifications in regards to access time.
Since for the C64/C128, an 150 ns meets the requirements, an
120 ns will do so also. I know of a friend who has an IBM AT with
80ns, 120ns, 150ns chips all on the same board and running happily.
Given this, get the chipest 256x1 memory chips (41256-xxx, I
think this is the chip number) that you can get your hands on.

Sincerely,
Scott K. Stephen
