[comp.sys.cbm] Kermit 2.2 VT102 emulation bug?

mroussel@alchemy.chem.utoronto.ca (Marc Roussel) (04/29/91)

I've never seen an actual VT102 terminal, so you'll forgive me if
this is actually a report of a feature rather than a bug.

Problem: Certain Unix curses-based programs (like vi) put Kermit 2.2 into a
peculiar single-line window mode after exit when rows is set to
25 via stty. (If you're wondering why anyone would want to do
this anyway, the answer is that I'm doing it to get around a
	 bug in another program.)

Why I think it's a bug: The other VT102 emulators I have access to don't
do this. (They certainly get a little confused in vi, but the
terminal is properly reset on exit.)

Work-around: On creating this condition, one simply exits to the Kermit
             shell, and types "restore".

Any comments? Is this in fact a bug or are the Kermit-65 people the
only ones who got this bit of emulation right? (In other words, would a
real VT102 also screw itself up in this way?) If people will reply to
me by email, I will post a summary in a few days.
