[comp.sys.cbm] My 1541 doesn't initialize itself...

halsema@mentor.cc.purdue.edu (Dave Halsema) (05/05/91)

I have just recently accquired a used 1541C disk drive.
When I turn on the power, the disk starts to spin but
it never stops. Is it common for a 1541 to have
self-initalization problems? Most important of all,
is there a way to fix this without taking it to
the shop?

More then likly your 6522 chip has gone out. I have some spects on
some of the older drives and it says if the drive is just spining
it might be that chip. There is also another list of things
that could be wrong with it. If you would like to get ahold of me
and talk about it call me at 801-465-3978. Hope that I can help
you out.
