[comp.sys.cbm] Wanted: 1541 drive motor or CHEAP 1541 for parts

alpert@chovax.enet.dec.com (Agent of Goldstein) (05/28/91)

I have an old 1541 drive (original type with the push-in tab to eject
the diskette) which has developed a fault in the drive motor. It
makes terrible noises and runs at low speed, sounds like bad bearings.
It is definitely the motor as the noise is emitted even if the drive
belt is removed.

Consequently I am looking for a replacement drive motor, or a broken 1541
that has a good drive motor, or possibly a 1541 that has fried electronics
but is still mechanically OK. (The operative word here is *CHEAP* -- I can't
spend a whole lot right now to get this thing working again.)

I assume that if the motor is replaced that the speed will need to be
adjusted.  There are strobe markings for 50 and 60 hz on the flywheel;
does anyone know where the speed adjustment is and if using these markings
to set the speed will be accurate enough?

Replies by email appreciated, thanks in advance!
