The next meeting of the Adelaide LUG will be held on Wednesday the
25th of July 1990 at 8:00pm at Australian Mineral Foundation,
     Conygham Street, Glenside.

This is a combined DECUS LUG and ACS Leading Edge Meeting. There
will not be the usual pre-meeting dinner due to the combined
     meeting.

Mr Gordon Brimble, (DSTO and DECUS SPR Chairman) will be speaking on
"Programmer Productivity - A Case for CASE?".

Over the past 20 years many Techniques have been touted as the
solution to "Programmer Productivity Problems", defined as the
number of lines coded per day. They have had very little impact on
this metric. The most recent fashion is Computer Aided Software
Engineering (CASE). What is software engineering about, Computer
Aided or Not? Is this the panacea? Is "Programmer Productivity" a
     useful parameter at all?

This presentation will consider the problems facing programmers and
system designers in order to obtain some insight into the causes of
the productivity problem. The aims and methods of software
engineering will be examined in the context of large projects. The
impact of CASE on these problems will be discussed, and some
conclusions made on the likely effect of CASE on programmer
     productivity.

Illustrations will be given from large defence projects.
