[comp.org.decus] Shows/concerts in Vegas week of Fall DECUS

michaud@decvax.dec.com (Jeff Michaud) (10/06/90)

Anyone know what shows will be in Vegas the week of Fall DECUS this
year? Wayne Newton, Rodney Dangerfield, ... ?????

BTW, should tickets be bought beforehand for shows like Wayne Newton
to get good seats (like should I reserve tickets now)?

I really wanted to see Wayne Newton - though, no offense, as a joke - but it
looks like he won't be performing the week that we're there. In fact, that
whole week looks very sparse as far as "big names" goes. Anyone else ...?

All the 'big names' probably found out that all us geeks are going to
be in Las Vegas that week. :-)

How about the week before or the week after DECUS? Seeing how hotel
rooms and food is supposed to be cheap it might be worth while to
take some vacation time while out there (since the air fare
	is paid by the company).

How's the weather in the Vegas area in mid December? Is it still
warm enough to drive over to the Hoover dam for a peak?

Anyone looking for a moderately bizarre way to spend a bit of free time (and
I suspect that anyone who wants to see Wayne Newton, yet realizes that the only
way to take him seriously is as a joke, is likely to be warped in the correct
direction) would be well advised to check out the Liberace Museum.

Imagine an almost incomprehensible concentration of high kitsch and bad taste,
elevated to an art form. Well worth a visit. The only positive thing about
Las Vegas, in fact. Why *does* DECUS end up in major loser cities so damned
often? (The preceding rhetorical question is for whining purposes only; I'm
well aware of the reasons, which have been discussed ad nauseam on a number of
previous occasions.)

There are several people (Newton amoung them, I believe) playing
Vegas that first week in December - I can find out this weekend. In fact,
I believe he's playing the Hilton.

Vegas in December gets down into the 40's at night and 50's during
the day - typically. It can get colder. Too cold for the water slide park
though - it's closed, darn!

The Liberace Museum - Mark, thanks for reminding me. Maybe I'll skip
the "Page Faults And You" talk and pay a visit. I'll bet there are some fine
Liberace souvenir items available there. But first, I'll go have breakfast at
the "all you can eat" $1.99 Circus Circus buffet. "Oh Mike, didn't that man spitin the eggs?" An experience not to be missed.
