I often hear of the hazards of aluminum house wiring but I don't really know much about it. Now that I find myself in the market for another house, it's time to research the question a little bit further.... What exactly are the problems with aluminum wire? What does it or does it not do that make it hazardous? When was use of aluminum wire in new construction discontinued? (I'm considering buying a 1972 house, should I worry?) How do you tell if your house has it? Can I tell something by looking at the wire (distinguishing codes on the wire's insulation, or characteristic color of the wire at a light switch or outlet connection?) Thx for the help.
