[comp.org.decus] Security Session Notes

davo@homer.corp.sgi.com (Dave Ferrise) (12/18/90)

Does anyone know how I can purchase a copy of the Security session notes from the Vegas DECUS? They ran out at the DECUS Bookstore there and the guy at the desk told me that it would NOT be possible to get them after the symposium. Somehow, I doubt that this is true.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated. I attended several of the sessions but did not take very extensive notes of my own as I was counting on being able to purchase them.

I did not get a copy of these notes, but I think your best bet is to find out
who the SECURITY session notes coordinator was, and contact him/her. Call
the DECUS office to find out who that person was.

You really ought to hit return once in a while while typing in a post..

They were correct, current DECUS is not set up to be able to provide
session notes after the symposium. There is some work being done
towards this goal, but it takes time to do these things.

If you were counting on being able to purchase them then you should have
done so before the last minute. The DECUS store has a policy of
session notes NOT running out, if purchased before about midday
Wednesday. For the people that tried to buy them on wed. as they ran
out, they issued coupons, and then reprinted them (at great cost)
via a printer in Vegas.

Your alternatives are fairly limited. You can try to find someone
near you that has a copy of them that might be willing to let you
copy them. You could contact the steering committee of the security
sig and see if they might be able to arrange for you to pay to make
another copy. (at some point their session note editor will get the
masters back; this depends on them keeping them, and having the time
in their normal day-today jobs to be able to do it for you).

I'm not certainly of the copyright status of the session notes, and
whether technically either of the above is legal; contact a copyright
lawyer or the DECUS office to be sure; if you're sued, it's not my
fault.
