I am surprised that no-one has mentioned the article that appeared in the February 1991 copy of DEC Professional entitled "The Decline Of DECUS". Carl Marbach really comes down hard on DECUS for not supporting the community, being too expensive, ignoring geography of the DEC population, etc. He says that since the magazine has a subscription of 250,000 and only 5,000 showed up at Las Vegas, a 2 percent showing is a failure! The way I look at it, DECUS has about 70,000 members of which maybe 8,000-10,000 show up for DECUS twice yearly. That makes it about a 14 percent showing. I wonder what kind of attendance he would consider a 'success'? 15,000? 20,000? 30,000? I wonder if he knows what all goes on in planning a symposia? Let's all let DEC Professional know what we think of the article they wrote about us. They are a UUCP node and to send a mail message to ANY staffer, mail it to: INDIVIDUAL@propress.com where INDIVIDUAL is the last name of the person you want to write to. I know I have a letter in the works! Earle Ake Dayton LUG Librarian
