Tape: VAX90B Section: [.MX] Reviewer: Earle Ake Ease of Installation: 5, VMSINSTAL Documentation: 5 Intended Audience: General, System Managers Ease of use: 4 Usefulness: 5 Sources included: Yes, Bliss Objects Supplied: Yes Message Exchange V2.1-1 Message Exchange (MX) is electronic mail software for VAX systems running VMS V5.0 or later, including VMS V5.4. It supports Internet mail over CMU-Tek TCP/IP and VMS/ULTRIX Connection, BITNET mail over Jnet, and UUCP mail over DECUS UUCP. MX uses VMS Mail for local message entry and delivery, and includes support for mailing lists and mail-based file servers. Since I have been using MX since version 1.3 I can say this has been a very useful product for me. It is VMSINSTAL-able and can be fully customized for your use. It is recommended that the system manager thoroughly read the installation guide before attempting installation. If you have never used a foreign mail interface before, it may take a few tries before you get the configuration correct for your system. It is suggested that once you get it running that you subscribe to the mailing list to receive further help and notice of updates. This is release 2.1-1. Since the tape was made the author, Matt Madison, has released 2.1-2, 2.1-3, 2.2, and is currently about to release 2.2-1. Release 2.1-3 has been tested under DECUS uucp 1.3. If you will be using DECUS uucp along with MX, either install this release and then update to 2.1-3 or install 2.2 instead. Documentation style looks familiar because the author has used VAX Document to format it.
