Subject: Michael Jackson poll.

I cast my vote for those in favor of Michael Jackson, although I must confess
that I consider him to be a "guilty pleasure" (that's something you like but
are somewhat embarrassed to admit). I have always been a fan of Motown
and the early Jackson 5 stuff was as good motown as nearly anything else
despite the obvious marketing appeal the "bubble-gummers".

Recently I stopped into a store to check out the new CDs, and the popular
music demo they were using was the MJ Thriller album. While it is possible
that the improved sound quality may have had something to do with it, I found
the album very appealing. One thing for certain, he not only has an excellent
voice, but also uses it well and is very creative with it. I was impressed
with the emotion he puts into his singing and his creative use of things like
breath and all the tonal things he can do.

Anyway, I consider him to be an excellent musician, and when I discovered that
he had written many of the better songs on the album I became convinced that
he was a lot more than just a well-marketed pop star.
