Note 81.0 POSTING TO INTERNET No replies

There is a newsgroup out on the Internet for DECUS related business. That
newsgroup is call COMP.ORG.DECUS. It is now possible to post announcements
and other useful stuff via mail directly from DCS to that newsgroup.
The VMSmail address is...
IN%"COMP-ORG-DECUS@UCBVAX.BERKELEY.EDU"
The All-in-fun address is...
COMP-ORG-DECUS@UCBVAX.BERKELEY.EDU@PMDF
This sends a mail message to Berkeley which in turn posts this to the
newsgroup. It is very important no other addresses be contained in the mail
message. The Berkeley software does not deal with multiple addresses
correctly and will likely trash the whole message.
I can see stuff like DECUS event information, LUG meeting information, and
other information that would be of interest to our membership being posted
here.
There are two other newsgroups that are of interest...
Their VMS mail addresses are...
IN%"COMP-OS-VMS@UCBVAX.BERKELEY.EDU"
IN%"COMP-SYS-DEC@UCBVAX.BERKELEY.EDU"
Their All-in-fun mail addresses are...
COMP-OS-VMS@UCBVAX.BERKELEY.EDU@PMDF
COMP-SYS-DEC@UCBVAX.BERKELEY.EDU@PMDF
These are technical newsgroups. COMP.OS.VMS is what becomes INFOVAX.
You run the real risk of getting flamed if you post non-technical information
to these groups.
The Internet culture is if one posts the same message to multiple newsgroups
it should be done as a single message with multiple "addresses". Unfortunately
because of the way the Berkeley software barfs when you give it multiple
addresses I don't know of anyway to do that from DCS. So if you post to more
than one newsgroup you have use multiple mail messages and there is a small
risk of being flamed.
