[comp.sys.mac] Expanding your system heap

howard@amdahl.UUCP (Howard C. Simonson) (11/12/86)

Thought I'd make a quick request to the net about the proper way to go
about expanding the system heap. Is there a tech note that addresses
this? I have most of them (compressed and ready for download) so a
pointer would be nice. I have heard in the past that there is more
to it than just editing the field in the boot blocks.

Of course the question arises, why do you want to change it? Anyone
have an answer? What indicators are there that its time to increase
the system heap? I have a system file on the old DF-20 thats about
a megabyte, must be a good sized resource map being built. I have
looked at the runtime allocation with the uriah heap DA. Shows very
little free memory available. There is a fair amount thats purgeable
though. I figure with two meg, why be stingy on the heap and court
unnecessary bombs. Any comments???
