After running a particular application, quitting normally, and attempting to launch it again from the Finder, I get the message "This application is already open or is missing. Try again." What does this mean? It is not mentioned in any manual that I have. The application is obviously not "missing", nor is it already open (e.g., with Switcher or Servant). The condition is cured only by rebooting. I'm using System 3.1 (supplied by GCC; I can't get later versions to work with my drive) and Finder 5.2 on a MacPlus with a HyperDrive 20. Thanks in advance for any information. Michael C. Berch ARPA: (for now) mcb@lll-crg.arpa UUCP: ...!lll-lcc!styx!mcb ...!lll-crg!styx!mcb ...!ihnp4!styx!mcb

I've gotten that error message, but it has always been due to exiting Servant (using the Shut Up command) without having closed all the applications. Any applications that were open at the time cannot be opened by Finder. Rebooting seems to clear this up. Whatever it is that the Finder is looking at, it isn't one of the flags that the Set File DA can set. -- Barry Margolin ARPA: barmar@MIT-Multics UUCP: ..!genrad!mit-eddie!barmar
