After five months of flawless service, my DataFrame disk has started to emit a painful high-pitched chirp/squeak. I remember it being reported earlier that the cause of this problem was an anti-static brush which was, in fact, unnecessary, and directions were posted on how to open the case and retract the brush; but I can't track those directions down. Could someone send them to me, or provide any other information on this problem? - Harry Lewis

WHAT! anti-static brush unecessary???? I suggest that you do *not* remove it. Usually, those brushes are soldered in place. What you should do is unsolder it to take the brush out, clean the contacts, and maybe put a wee-dab of some semi-solid lubricant (I don't remember the type) on it. Then resolder it back on. -Matt

Apparently several drive manufacters HAVE suggested that the anti-static brushes are not necessary. In fact, a DataFrame representative said that it was ok to remove the brush. According to him it was a holdover from older drives. Supposedly many newer drives don't incorporate this feature. -Christian
