[comp.sys.mac] modems on the Mac +

B5U@PSUVM.BITNET (12/02/86)

I have hooked up my Mac + to my roommates DAK ADC Smart Duck 1200 modem using
a mini 8 to db 25 cable originally intended to hookup the Apple IIe to the
Imagewriter II. We had to switch pins 2 and 3 (using a separate ribbon cable),
otherwise, there have been no problems (the IBM mainframe the net is on here
is what I am hooked up to as I write this).
The modem can be ordered from DAK for $169 plus $6 shipping, and takes 2-4
weeks to receive. It is Hayes compatible, and has had no problems.

Standard disclaimers: I am not working for/involved with Apple, DAK, or the
  ribbon making company.

Recently, DAK reduced the price of the modem to $149.00 we ordered
it at $169.00 ut was only billed the new lower price. DAK is a very
friendly and good company. I enjoy just reading their catalogs.

BTW, I am president of a local Mac users group funded by Rutgers and
the invoice for the modem said DUCK.......$149.00. I had a good time
eplaining to the College that we recieved a modem and not a duck.
