So that you'll know when they don't arrive... I've just posted two short items to comp.sources.mac. One is my contribution to the 60Hz animation discussion. It comes in around 50Hz, but you can speed it up by not using the entire screen. The other is the latest version of SCSI Stop, a shutdown utility that parks your disks. Questions? Feel free to write. Has this been created "net-wide" yet, or is this some local strain that Ephraim is accessing? The news administrators at Fluke have assured me that we have not gotten a "create newsgroup" message here yet; just wondered if others were in the same boat. I assumed that mod.mac.{binaries,sources} were the current newsgroups for distributing Macintosh sources and binaries, and that they might someday metamorphize into comp.sources.mac... but I was assuming that was going to be delayed. (On confusion about comp.sources.mac) I think, judging from some of my correspondence, that some sites have created comp.sources.mac (and removed net.sources.mac). The result is that postings to these groups aren't propagating. I *THINK* that crossposting to both groupnames (c.s.m and n.s.m) should cause articles to propagate intact through sites which carry either group, and may therefore serve as a fix until someone lets the offending sites know that they should get rid of comp.sources.mac and bring back n.s.m. Would someone who is more knowledgable in the ways of news please advise as to whether this is a good idea? -- jeanne a. e. devoto | "The mind is an infinite resource...but ...!tektronix!reed!jeanne | only if you don't squander it." Comp.sources.mac is NOT a valid newsgroup at this time. If you look at the "checkgroups" message that is sent out with a list of all the valid newsgroups, you will find that very few comp.sources groups are there. Why, you might ask? Because comp.sources.mac is destined to be moderated, and integrating the mod groups into all of the rest of the groups is the last step in the newsgroup reorganization that has taken place over the past several months. So, until comp.sources.mac is officially created, I would suggest sending your postings to mod.mac.{binaries,sources}. If your news software is properly installed, you should be able to just post to mod.mac.binaries, and the news software will do the rest. If that doesn't work, mail them to felix!macintosh.
