[comp.sys.mac] MacTable

brucer@pwcs.StPaul.GOV (Bruce Alan Riebe) (12/09/86)

I am posting this for a friend without access to the net.

First, do any of you out there on the net own a MacTable
by Scandinavian Computer Furniture? (They say it
can accommodate everything that goes with the Mac)

Secondly, is it a good product (good materials, smart
	construction)?

Finally, how much did you pay for it, is it available
through mail-order places, and if so could you give me a
	phone number for this place?

I apologize if this subject has been brought up before, I
have not seen mention of this product, so I decided to
post and then put on my flame-proof long underwear.

Please email me, and if there is a significant number of replys I
will summarize and post.

Yes, and have for about a year now. It is one of their earlier larger ones
-- 60" wide x 30" deep by ~28" high. Tons of room, and probably the most
reliable piece of hardware I've ever bought (certainly the best looking).

Excellent materials -- or at leas the older model is. Easy to clean, and
the wood is probably the best I've seen in a computer table. The main thing
is, it has plenty of room and more for the Mac and for drawing, and it is
beautiful (and I don't find furniture beautiful very often).

They have either an alternative model or have decided to make them smaller
-- the ones I see now are about 40" wide (which makes sense in a lot of
cases -- mine looks a little like a drafting board). I got it put together
(it comes unassembled) in about 3 hours. The directions are not the worst
(this was not the first piece of Scandanavian furniture I'd assembled), but
they weren't great.

That's a bit trick -- I got mine for about $350, but ScanCoFurn is Seattle,
I know the president of the company (he's in the local Mac User's group, of
which I am a member), and he's been giving discounts on them to members
whenever he is a little overstocked. I know that I got mine for at least
$30 off. The smaller models are probably cheaper, though. ScanCoFurn is
probably not selling to mail order, as they have practically become a
mail-order business themselves (the warehouse is out in Kent, WA, while the
offices are in Seattle).

Ah, just looked at the ad in MacUser -- there are two sizes, wide and a
smaller model. $399 for the large, $339 for the small. They do ship it to
you; number is 800-722-6263. Wouldn't hurt to mention my name; the guy in
charge's name is Soren Storm.

Probably should say this: I have no financial affiliation of any kind with
ScanCoFurn, except as someone who owns and likes their tables.
