Those who have Fontographer should be aware that its copy protection scheme involves writing an invisible file on the desktop which has a name of four undefined characters, e.g. the name looks like four boxes. There is no information on the file to indicate what it is. Don't delete the file. If the file is gone, your copy of Fontographer is useless. To the credit of Altsys customer support, they were very helpful and had no reservations about sharing the above information. They also mentioned that Fontographer will not boot with MacsBug installed.

installation.
While it can be copied with CopyIIMac 6.2, the following system will
enable installation of Fontographer on a hard disk without lowering the
allowed "install count", thus enabling disk-backup, reformatting, etc.
When installing it on a hard disk, A dialogue box appears asking if
you wish to install it, etc. At this point, remove the Fontogropher
disk, using a paper clip and replace it with a sector copy (made by any
of a number of simple copy programs). Then proceed. The hard disk
installation will take place and the count will be decremented on the
copy.
I will no longer buy copy-protected software.
