[] The January 87 issue of BYTE makes mention of a program called MacIntax which I assume is an income tax preparation program. Does anyone have any information about this program (i.e. comments, price, suppliers). Thanks, Ken Heitke @ AT&T ihnp4!ihlpe!kah120

I used MacinTax to do my taxes last year. If you get the business supplement (which may come with the basic package this year) you will have most of the forms you will need even if you have your own consulting business as I do. The program runs without apparent bugs on MacXL and 512K macs. The output is a set of forms printed on and imagewriter which are acceptable to the IRS--no transcribing the results or trying to align IRS forms with your printer. Generally very easy to use and very complete. Jerry Pournelle, who apparently uses the Mac only when absolutely necessary, says this program is reason enough to get a Mac if you have to do anything more than 1040ES ( I hope I got the gist of his comments in Byte right). I got my Macintax through MacConnection--a very good mail-order outfit. Check their prices in any Mac magazine. Mark Borgerson Oregon State University Computer Science (mjbo@orstcs)
