I'm looking into larger (i.e. > 20 MB) hard disks and it seems that there
are some quite interesting differences in prices. I quote from the January
MacWorld:
Sunol Systems SunStreak SCSI-70 $3795 for 70 MB
Rabbit Ind. Magic235 $3399 for 235 MB
That seems like quite a different $/MB ratio. Anyway, I'm not looking for
235 MB drives in the $3k price range. These are three disks that look
interesting to me from the point of view of $/MB ratio:
Jasmine Comp. Direct Drive 80 $1380 for 80 MB
Rabbit Ind. Magic65 $1399 for 65 MB
Softworks, Ltd. SD-60 $1495 for 60 MB
Note that the price goes up as capacity goes down!!? I'd appreciate mail from
people who are familiar with hard disks from these three companies (not
necessarily these particular models). Why are the prices so different?
Is there (apart from some cosmetics) a basic difference between higher and
lower prices disks? How about reliability?
