The system presently consists of two DEC VAX 11/750's running UNIX 4.1BSD (in the process of converting to 4.2), under DEC maintenance. "DISSPLA" and the IEEE software pack- age are in wide use. Budget is approximately $300,000/year. Growth is vigorous; plans for growth include local-area network, laser printer/plotter, and a seagoing data acquisition and analysis system. Duties: 1. Help individual researchers to apply UNIX tools in the design of specific phases of research projects and in the analysis of results. 2. Participate in development of computer-based systems and their in-field testing. 3. Play lead role in planning enhancement of the computer tools available to the research activities of the Laboratory. 4. Opportunity to develop small computer R and D effort. 5. This person will also have significant experience as systems administrator or lead systems programmer on a UNIX-based computer, ideally a VAX with Berkeley UNIX. U.S. citizenship and eligibility for an industrial security clearance are required. The Applied Physics Laboratory is a division of the College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences, University of Washington, and is located on the campus in Seattle. Please send resume to Ms. Linda M.
