[comp.sys.mac] Power-Up failure

graifer@net1.UUCP (02/18/87)

I am having a very intermittant problem with my vanilla Mac+. 3 or 4 times
in the last 6 months I've experianced the following failure (my Mac is about
a year old):

On power-on, I get the beep, then nothing; The screen doesn't even light up.
Cycling the power off and on doesn't correct this. I hit reset, and everything
comes up just fine. Subsequent power -off and -on cycles work too.

I am booting off a DataFrame 20 (not XP yet) with the new software installed.
Anybody out there have any ideas what's happening?

The usual thanks in advance!

Just possibly, your reset or interrupt switches are sticking.

Particularly if an unmentioned part of your scenario is that you just
took the Mac out of it's carry-case.

You deactivate the stuck because after being pressed , on rebound the
actuator pulls out far enough.

I just had my old 128 upg'd to a Mac+. And now the programmer
switches stick just as I'm describing to you.

I haven't figured out yet (really, no time, if can get it to work)
just what is misaligned, which looks hard to do from how it's
designed. But looking at it in the light shows actuator blades way
off-center in the slot, so rub on one side.

Hope this is your problem.

I have received 4-5 mail msgs regarding my power up problems on my Mac+. All
suggested the same thing: Stuck reset or interrupt switch. Since my interrupt
switch is sometimes flakey (takes several hits to trigger) I suspect it's the
culprit. Thanks to all of you who responded.
