I would really like to see a product that addresses Desktop Publishing AND Chess. Such a product would ideally be able to do the following: 1) Accept a game list in Descriptive, Algebraic, or from Graphical input. Or from some kind of "bar code" or strip reader format 2) Check the game for legality 3) Be able to translate the game to any other format. Including output in figurine algebraic, "bar code" or "strip reader" 4) Be able to produce a diagram quickly at any point in the game 5) Have the full ECO "opening book" available and indicate on the game score the appropriate opening designation. Same thing for endings. 6) Be able to easily maintain a "tree structure" of positions/move sequences for analysis and printing These are a just a few of the ideas that are possible in this area. Wouldn't it be great to receive Chess Life and Reveiw, run a bar code wand over the last page, and have all the games in that issue available for replay and analysis in something like Sargon III ? Same thing for chess books. Micro's have conquered chess playing for all practical purposes. (The only folks that need a master level program are experts.) It's time to shift the focus from just playing chess to increasing HUMAN enjoyment of the game. This means teaching, publishing, cataloging, etc. Bruce Cheney (TriQuint Semiconductor, Beaverton OR)
