demillo@uwmacc.UUCP (07/12/84)

I'm sending this for a friend of mine moving to AnnArbor...

She's looking for an apartment in the AnnArbor-Yipsolinti
area starting in September of this year. The price range is
in the $300 range. No roommates.

If you know of anything please contact me via the net.
Many thanks,
                  Rob DeMillo

On the whole, I'd say that the chances of getting a one
bedroom apt. in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti (note spelling please)
for $300 are in the range slim to none! Especially in the
month of September. I went to school there for 4 years so
I know a little bit about the housing situatiuon.

Remember, Ann Arbor is home to University of Michigan (Go Blue!)
and its 40,000 students. The Fall term starts in september, so
that's when most apt. leases start. Needless to say, most apts
are taken by mid-summer, if not by the end of the school year
in May.

Also, the housing market in AA is very steep. My last
year at U-M I shared a two-bedroom apt, on the small side,
for $440/mo. and that was considered a pretty cheap place.
$300/mo for a single will not be found at this late date
unless the place is a dump or the market in AA has
changed radically since 1982.

Ypsi will be similar. Eastern Michigan University is there
and while there are far fewer students, the same type of
captive market/higher rents trend will be seen. Of the two, though
Ypsi will certainly be cheaper.

Good luck in the search. My advice is START LOOKING NOW!!!
Even if it means going up to AA for a while. Doing it long-
distance will probably get you nowhere. If you can't do
it in person, try talking to someone at system uofm-cv
which is owned by U-M. They might have an idea.

If you need any more info, I'll be glad to help

P.S. I would have e-mailed it, but the specific request
was to reply via the net.
