[comp.sys.mac] MDS Version, and where to get it?

deano@hope.UUCP (02/26/87)

Ok, what is the most recent version of MDS? I understand that there is a 2.0
floating around, but my dealer does not have it.(So what else is new) I
need something that works with the MacPlus better, and I can't afford MPW
(oh how I wish I could). Also, I have the old "Phonebook" version of inside
Macintosh, is it worth buying the newer versions? I've heard that they have as
many errors as the old "phonebook" does. Thanks in advance...

A request for information on MDS 2.0 appeared, with questions about
its availability. Also included was a question about the quality of the
phone book edition of Inside Macintosh.
If you have MDS 1.0, if you send your MDS 1.0 disk one and $25.00 to
the following address (It must be post marked by Feburary 28th - though if it
is a few days late it should be acceptable), you will receive the MDS 2.0
upgrade kit:
		Apple Computer, Inc.
		MDS 2.0 Upgrade
		467 Saratoga Avenue, Suite 621
		San Jose, CA 95129
Include a form giving your name, compnay, mailing address, and
phone number. If you are a California resident, include 7% sales tax.
Checks should be made payable to Apple Computer, Inc.

In mid-March, Apple Computer will be discontinuing support of MDS,
and turning the product over to its developer, Consulair Corp., who will
be marketing it as the Consulair 68000 Development System. They plan to
sell it for 79.95 I believe. You can order it from direct from Consulair
Corp at the following address:
		Consulair Corp.
		140 Campo Drive
		Portola Valley, CA 94025
In addition, it should be available from APDA (Apple Programmer's
and Developer's Association).

Finally, you should get Inside Macintosh Volumes 1-4 to replace the
phonebook version of Inside Macintosh. The phonebook version was a very
early version and is not a accurate as the published version.

As a final comment, if you can afford $100.00, you should order the
Macintosh Programmer's Workshop from APDA. This is a very powerful environment
with a number of great development tools, including a great assembler.
