I've been up until 2:00 A.M. the past few mornings test-driving Microsoft Word 3.0. I love it. The page preview feature is really neat. And boy, is this bugger fast - scrolling, saving, printing, repaginating - what an improvement! Everything I've ever wanted in a word processor and more. Style sheets make formatting a snap. The spelling checker is pretty good. I don't mind the outliner, either. The documentation is very extensive. What an impressive package. The only problem is fitting it all on a non-enhanced 512K machine. The application takes up 393K, so that means the system on the other disk has to be stripped down considerably to make room for a few documents. Won't run on a minifinder. The only way I was able to use the spelling checker was on a Mac+ at work, also allowing me laser printer access. Time to upgrade. (Actually, it works on my 400K drives, but requires some disk swapping (I HATE disk swapping!).

I was a little dismayed with the spelling checker. When you add your own words to USER1, all of the sudden the entries you make are case sensitive. "login" and "Login" are two distinct words. Also, it doesn't seem to handle apportrophies properly. "Jane" and "Jane's" are two distinct words. With words that are in its main dictionary, these two things work properly. -- Dave Thompson uucp: {ihnp4|hplabs|psivax}!csun!dlt CSUN Computer Center phone: (818) 885-2790 18111 Nordhoff Street, Northridge, CA 91330
