Firstly, I've recently seen various notes in MacWorld about SCSI adapters for the 512 or 512E. Are these actually compatible with any hard drive? Anyone have any experience with these things? Send mail if you like. Secondly, I'm currently becoming involved in the epic MS-DOS vs. Macintosh battle here at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. I need information from Macintosh users who are using their Macs in that dready "real world" arena. I'm primarily interested in the fields of Marine Engineering (although I'd like to hear from other engineering people as well), and Marine Transportation. Any information would be greatly appreciated, as well as any pointers to information. -- Peter Merchant merchant@dartvax.UUCP

In Reply to Peter Merchant at the US Merchant Marine Academy, I do not know about specific applications in the area of Marine Engineering, but I do know that the US Coast Guard Academy has announced that cadets will be required to purchase Macintosh systems. In addition it is encouraging instructors to increase their use of the computer as a teaching tool. They believe, "As the sharing of software throughout the academic community spirals, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy expects this trend to enhance its entire educational program." In the area of general engineering, for example, Seymour Cray of Cray Research is using the Macintosh as a tool as he designs the next generation of Cray Supercomputers. In addition, a number of engineers are using the Macintosh as a design tool. This use can only increase with the introduction of the Macintosh II, which is a very powerful engineering workstation.....I had seen it during development, but when it was introduced its power still blew me away! -- Jordan Mattson UUCP: ucbvax!mtxinu!apple!jordan Apple Computer, Inc.
