[comp.sys.mac] Postscript, Laserprinters and Software for the MAC II

juracan@ihlpl.UUCP (03/12/87)

My department is planning to buy a MACII, but I would
like some information from the net first.
Please mail me the information, I'll summarize to the net
in a couple of weeks

	1) Are there any laserprinters that will understand postscript
and also are less expensive than the Apple Laserwriter?

	2) What software will run on the MACII when it comes out(EXCEL,
	MACDRAW,CRICKETDRAW...)?

	3) Which MAC software will get ported to A/UX(EXCEL,MACDRAW,...)?

	4) Is a color viewgraphs production system going to come out for
the MACII before the end of the year?

In response to 1903@ihlpl.ATT.COM

In a recent message Ted Alonso (ihnp4!ihlpl!juracan) asks some questions
about the new Macintosh II and laser printers.

	1) I understand that QMS is producing a postscript printer, that is
cheaper than the LaserWriter. But it has a draw back I understand:
it does not have as much RAM, and therefore is slower than the
	LaserWriter.

	2) If developers wrote or modified their applications to be in
compliance with the guidelines set out by Apple, they should run
on the Macintosh II. Apple is major applications for compatibility
and informing developers of the results. It is a good bet that by
the time the Macintosh II ships, most if not all major applications
	will be compatibile.

	3) Well behaved applications should run under A/UX, which provides
access to the toolbox. For those that are not well behaved, it will
be up to the developers to make them well behaved if they want them
	to run under A/UX.

	4) I do not know what color view graphs are. Could you please tell
	me.
