[comp.sys.mac] MacDraw vs CricketDraw vs Illustrator

esf00@amdahl.UUCP (03/13/87)

I am contemplating the purchase of a new SE, and my wife [a stained
glass artist] wants to be able to use it. Her requirement is for a
Draw-type program that can work with a drawing at "normal" (8 1/2" x 11",
8 1/2" x 14") size and then blow it up to wall size (a limitation of
48" x 144" seems to be acceptable) for use as the cartoon.

Draw will allow expansion of a drawing by printing it on strips on
the Imagewriter than are then taped together to make the full size
picture. Can any of the other Draw programs (CricketDraw,
Adobe Illustrator, etc.) do this? Can this be done for something
created with [MacPaint, SuperPaint, etc.]?

Mail me responses, I'll summarize.

BillBoard (shareware, has been posted) will blow up a Paint document
very nicely; I used it for a presentation last week, and am sending in
my money (!).

For my money, also inexpensive, SuperPaint is a great way to make up any
image. With both Draw and Paint layers as appropriate, it's easy to get
things moved around to what you want.

Then save the results to a separate file in Paint (only) format, and
put BillBoard to work on that to make the large version.
