[comp.sys.mac] How the keyboard maps to the font?

kkim@uiucdcsb.UUCP (03/14/87)

I have a question as to how the keyboard maps to the font on MacPlus.
For example, if Option-e is followed by one of a,E,e,i,o,u,or Option-e,
the two key strokes will be mapped into one 8-bit character.
Option-e followed by E will be mapped to 83 (hexadecimal).
I wonder what will happen if Option-e is not followed by one of the
above ones.

   Similar comment applies to Option-i, -n, -u, -`.

Does anybody out there know it?

Thanks in advance. Please reply via e-mail. I will post a summary
if there is interest.

Is there any way to get a circumflex added to any character other than a vowel?
Specifically, I need to use it over y's (necessary for Welsh).

The option key mapping is done in the keyboard driver. It is
reprogrammable, but this is frowned upon as it blows away lots and lots of
interface assumptions. It might be desirable, however, for an application
such as a foreign language word processor.
