There's a store around here that sells 'em for $35.95.  I think it 
includes software, and maybe the 16k extension.

Thanks, people, for all the responses.  Murphy got a little
ahead of himself this time.  As I was sitting down to write
a check, and mail it, my new Popular Science fell open to an
advertisement for a surplus house that was selling factory-refurbished
ones for $15. each.
