[*** drop no bytes on me line eater ***] THANKS to all who replied about my external drive problems. It turns out that the Apple 800K external drives would much rather have the new ROMS but if you have the HD20 file (and a newer system/finder than I was using) it seems to work ok. One other thing though -- (this is probably dumb) I got a newer finder (5.2) but I don't know how to check which version of the System file I have. Or which version of HD20 I have (1.1 was recommended over 1.0). thanks again steve "happily hearing the whirr of little external 3 1/2 disks" yee -- Steven D.
