[comp.sys.mac] another Word 3.0 bug

socha@drivax.UUCP (03/31/87)

Well, I've also been playing the "do work in Word 3.0 and find a BUG" game.
Below are problems I've found in one area not usually used/tested.

Because I want to <<include file.c>> in a document I MUST use print merge.
At least no other method was found. (Why must I Print Merge if only INCLUDING?)
Print Merge caused formating information to be lost from within the document.
Note that this was not for the included text but regular Word document stuff.
For example:
	* I put boxes around paragraphs. If not part of a Style they disappeared.
Also, the boxed text had special tabs which also disappeared.
	* A bulleted list that was inside a paragraph
lost the forced left justification for its items.
	* At some random points, text was layed down on my imagewriter
incorrectly. Speciacally a) one word was printed about 50 pixels
to the left of where it should have been (gap was there for it).
	  b) one line had incorrect spacing where the last character of one word
was overprinted by a few pixels of the first character of next word.

Also, I had a "Header" style that was defined as double spaced and, I had
vertical bars on the left and right of a column containing the header.
Some headers ended up at the top of a column. Word eliminated the white space
above the header, moving the heading to the top of the column which was good.
But, the vertical bars were printed above the column top in the "Heading" area
which was bad.

By the way, I found that when using "Print Merge"s <<include file>> capability,
the style of the include if it was a text document (Lightspeed Pascal source
in this case):
   1)	was NOT the style of the <<include file>> directive which I expected
   2)	was NOT the NORMAL style for the document which I considered
   3)	but WAS the DEFAULT NORMAL style define for Word 3.0!
If any Redmonians are listening, #3 means only one text input style for Word.
#2 means only one possible per document. But, #1 allows differing styles
wherever needed. When Word is fixed, do THIS!

I will gladly discuss other enhancements if you send me mail!
