HFS Backup V2.01 DOES allow you to restore without the Backup directory. First, HD Backup V1.26 and BEFORE has some REALLY MAJOR BUGS. FWB Software has NOT returned my calls for 8 weeks now, and they keep promising to. HFS Backup writes a backup directory to the FIRST and last volume of a saveset, which makes reading the saveset directory almost always a sure thing. But, in the rare case you cannot read either directory, you can still restore by holding the OPTION key during program startup and you place the backup disk (floppy) to be restored in the drive, and you get a menu of files stored in the directory on that disk. (I think this is right, it is all documented in the User manual, so check the exact instructions there). These people store files in the 1 big file schemem to save TIME, not having to open and close files alot on the output disk really speeds things up. HFS Backup V1.xx used to save individual files, slightly transmokulated, but as seperate files. I personally like the new scheme of things in HFS Backup. Phil Hunt
