Here at work, we have a number of Mac Plus machines. Some are equipped with IOMega Bernoulli Box 10+10 hard floppies, and one (mine) has an Apple Hard Disk 20SC. Lately, we've been having problems with Bernoulli Box cartridges getting garbled -- the Finder says the disk is damages, IOMega Tools displays a garbled disk name, Disk First Aid says there's something wrong with the disk, tries to repair it, says it's done, and makes no difference at all. This problem seems independent of the Bernoulli Box, because we switched Bernoulli Boxes and still had the same problem. In the hopes that we might find something wrong with the Mac Plus involved, I am now using that Mac Plus with a Bernoulli Box, and my Hard Disk 20SC. Now, I find that strange things are happening. To wit, I can't have both the Bernoulli Box and the Apple Hard Disk mounted at the same time! If I mount the Bernoulli cartridge, when I quit to the Finder, the Apple drve just sits there and spins on and on and on.... I end up having to reboot, and then I can work, as long as I don't mount that Bernoulli cartridge. It seems as though there's some strange interaction between the Mac Plus, Bernoulli Box, and Apple Hard Disk 20 SC. I understand that someone else in my group's had similar problems trying to use a Bernoulli Box with a LoDown hard drive, while yet another person has successfully used the Bernoulli Box with a SERIAL Apple Hard Disk 20 (the one that connects to the drive port). This indicates to me that it's purely a SCSI related problem. For the record, here's my system: Macintosh Plus (1mb) Apple Hard Disk 20SC (configured with Apple HD SC Setup version 1.1) IOMega Bernoulli Box System 4.0 Finder 5.4 The bernoulli Box is SCSI address 5, and the HD 20SC is SCSI 4, so I know there's no address conflict. --Rich Richard M. The older IOMEGA drivers did not poll the SCSI lines correctly, causing problems with the symptoms you describe. The solution is to get the new IOMEGA Tools 4.0 utility from Iomega. They will send you a disk if you call them. They also have a BBS and you can download it. You will not need to reformat the cartridges, just install the driver. Larry Zulch Dantz Software Development
