Does anyone know if Apple has released details of how a Mac II is intended to use NFS (the Sun workstation network protocol)? We are interested in the possibility of using Mac II's as workstations at Duke, where we have many Sun workstations and servers. Ideally, we would like to be able to use the Sun servers to store A/UX and Macintosh applications. Will this be possible? Or will each Mac II require a large expensive and redundant hard disk?

Followup on information request: A/UX will support NFS. A/UX is a full System 5.X port with most all of the 4.X BSD enhancements, and many other goodies. -- Jordan Mattson UUCP: ucbvax!mtxinu!apple!jordan Apple Computer, Inc. It seems a reasonable thing to ask, since Sun is shipping software that lets MS-DOS machines act as NFS clients. Software is what makes a computer useful, and there is a lot of good software written for the traditional Mac OS. Companies that already have NFS networks would find the Mac II a more attractive wokstation if networked Mac II's could run this software rather than just A/UX applications. - Dan Kegel ({seismo, rutgers}!rochester!srs!dan)

A reply to Dan Kagel about NFS support under Macintosh OS: I don't know. I will check into it. -- Jordan Mattson UUCP: ucbvax!mtxinu!apple!jordan Apple Computer, Inc.
