I got a letter from MacUser today (no, they STILL haven't responded to my article query. This was a form letter). In it, they give me a chance to win a Mac II or one of a number of other neat prizes if I just fill out this little questionaire -- who are you, what do you use your Mac for -- the standard magazine demographic stuff. So, I fill out the questionaire. I'm ready to send it in, and I take a look at the rules and prizes. Prizes: 1 Mac II. 5 20 meg SCSI disk drives, and 10 software packages (More, WriteNow, or PowerPoint). 15 prizes, total retail cost under $10K, spread out against their entire readership base. Big deal. And then the rules. The sweepstakes starts May 31, 1987. (Last I looked, it was only May 8 -- does this mean if I send it in early I get disqualified???). Better yet, the sweepstakes ends on May 31, 1988, and the drawing will be held no later than July, 1988. 1988. right. So, by telling them about myself to help them maximize their advertising revenue, if I get amazingly lucky I might get a free Mac II in eighteen months. Or perhaps just a copy of More. Or likely nothing. Gee, such a deal! Macuser will stop at nothing to please its readers!
