This information may or may not be public knowledge, but I didn't know
about it until recently, so I thought I should mention it. A few weeks
ago I enquired how someone on BITNET could get access to the INFO-MAC
archives. As it turns out, there is a node, MACSERVE AT PUCC, which
users on CMS can access using the TELL command. This unfortunately,
did not solve my problem since my BITNET machine is a Cyber, and our
USENET machine is a Vax running 4.3BSD.
However, I have just received back information about Mac archives that
are kept on SIMTEL20. I sent for a directory and most of the INFO-MAC
stuff is there and seems pretty well up-to-date. To access the SIMTEL20
archives, the following info might be of help:
To obtain a directory listing of the MACINTOSH stuff, send your request to
ARCHIVE-REQUEST@SIMTEL20 as follows:
SEND PD:<MACINTOSH>MACINTOS.CRCLST
To obtain up to five files in a single request message by netmail from
the public domain archives kept on SIMTEL20.ARPA, send a message to:
ARCHIVE-REQUEST@SIMTEL20.ARPA
or via uucp:
...!ucbvax!simtel20.arpa!archive-request
...!uw-beaver!simtel20.arpa!archive-request
...!decwrl!simtel20.arpa!archive-request
...!lll-crg!simtel20.arpa!archive-request
...!ut-sally!simtel20.arpa!archive-request
...!harvard!simtel20.arpa!archive-request
[do NOT use host "seismo" - they are blocking messages from the server]
For additional INFO, you should one of the following commands to SIMTEL20.
SEND HELP - Short help file
SEND INFO - Detailed help file
Examples:
SEND PD:<MACINTOSH.DA>DISKINFO.1
SEND PD:<MACINTOSH.COMM>KERMIT.1
Hope this information will be of help to someone.
