More Word3.0 horror stories. Has anyone tried this: Choose define styles (Format menu) Set up the style (choose Paragraph and change the font size for instance) Type NORMAL in the styles text box (lets redefine Normal) Say OK to the dialog box that says "Style already exists" La Bomba - a toss up between an ID=02 and ID=28. Only a problem when you do this to normal; and alright if you choose normal before setting up the style. I'd be interested if anyone else can produce the same effect from these actions. I don't know if I want Microsoft to hurry up and get a new version out, or take their time, this time, and test it well first. All I do know is if they charge for it, I plan on becoming either a satisfied WriteNow or FullWrite customer. Still I must say, I expect a fair shake since their upgrade deals to date have been quite fair. -- "Plan for the future because that's where you Howard C. Microsoft has already announced that Word 3.01 will be made available as a free upgrade to everyone who is a registered user of 3.0, and for the same terms as Word 3.0 for the rest of the world. They know they blew the QA, and they're eating the results. Can't be more fair than that. The timeframe I've heard is June, but I don't know how firm it is -- I do get the feeling from talking to them that they won't ship it until they are satisfied about the quality. chuq Chuq Von Rospach chuq@sun.COM [I don't read flames] There is no statute of limitations on stupidity

I realize that Word 3.0 has a few bugs to say the least, but consider this. The changes between 1.05 and 3.0 are immense. There is no possible way they could have beta-tested it and found all these bugs. Given that there are some which seem to be pretty obvious, but the majority that I have read about seem pretty obscure and happen only when a selected series of commands are used -- there is no way a beta-tester could go through all the possible series of command. Microsoft has been fairly good about contacting people on the net so far and have been pushing to get the new update out as soon as they can. (Of course for business relations so they don't lose more customers...) So far, I've at least been happy with what I've observed. (And haven't encountered that many bugs...) I once had engineering responsibility for a floppy-disk duplication operation in a captive house (medium volume (would have been small, except for all of the new releases and sizeable finished-goods inventory :-))). All of those little diskettes look an awful lot alike, you know. If you stick a label on them BEFORE you duplicate, you run the risk of shipping BAD media (they don't all work perfectly, you know, even with media certifiers). There are so many opportunities for something to go wrong with duplication that I find it amazing that the duplicators do it as well as they do! This is not meant to excuse the above (an glaring error), but to serve to instill a bit of compassion into all of us who benefit from the labors of those who perform this service for us. -- Rich Straka ihnp4!ihlpf!straka Advice for the day: "MSDOS - just say no."
