Your points are well taken about text editors in particular, and applications in general. Coherence of design contributes directly to transparency of the user interface, leading the user to feel that he can, in Alan Kay's terms, reach through the screen and manipulate the information directly. Having been involved in the early phase of conceptual design of what later became FullWrite, I know that Scott Weiner is not an average programmer, and unaware of the concerns of users; and they *were* originally scheduled to become very intimately involved in the design process. We can only hope that this intention was carried through to the final product (whenever it actually appears), and that the program is not bogged down by self-indulgent admiration of technical prowess, in the form of a plethora of poorly integrated features.
