[comp.sys.mac] Results of the 2400 Baud Modem Responses

perry@killer.UUCP (Alan Perry) (05/19/87)

Hi,
Due to a large number of requests to post some info on the information I
requested on 2400 baud modems and which was the best, I decided to post some
results.

I received approximately 20 responses to my initial request. Of these, the
overwhelming winner was USRobotics 2400 baud modem. I got 12 votes for it (I
am including both the 2400 and the 2400e <mnp-error-checking> versions).
The rest of the messages were for this modem and that. One thing I did have
recommended was to look into Computer Shopper to find some inexpensive modems.
If there is interest, I will divulge the fruits of that search (basically
I found that the USR modem was only at most $100 more or so expensive than
the discount ones advertised there).

I don't have any info on USRobotics, but I imagine they have a 1-800 number
which you could find the number for by calling 1-800-555-1212 (forgive my
laziness, in not doing so myself).

DISCLAIMER: I am in no way connected to USRobotics, Computer Shopper (or their
publisher), or AT&T (the 1-800 reference). There, now I feel all better...
:-)
