[comp.sys.mac] Information Request on Mac Add-on Boards

krm@aluxz.UUCP (Kurt Marko) (05/21/87)

I am looking into getting a new Mac SE, however I would like
a little information from all you experienced Mac users.

Does anyone have experience with any of the 68020 accelerator
boards? I've seen ads for the Prodigy board (with sockets
for 68881 and MMU) which looks pretty nice, but is quite expensive.
Since these boards will take up the SE's only available expansion
slot, will I be unable to add other boards later (like an 8086
processor), or do the '020 accelerators allow piggybacking?

Other questions:
--How about memory? Are the performance gains worth
the price of going to 2MB RAM?
--Hard disks? I know I'll need at least 20MB, but
what about the Rodime 45MB internal drive (one of
the dealers around here routinely configures the
SE with the 45MB instead of the standard 20MB drive).

Thanks for your help. You can reply to me directly and I'll
summarize, or post directly if you think it's of general interest.
