[comp.sys.mac] MIDI interfaces

milo@ndmath.UUCP (Greg Corson) (05/23/87)

I would appreciate any information anyone might be able to send on MIDI
interfaces that are compatable with the Mac+ or Mac SE. I would prefer
something that is standard enough to be used with Delux Music Construction
Set and other commercial packages.

I'm not above building something myself if someone has plans and software
drivers for a build-it-yourself MIDI that they know works.

I use a Passport MIDI interface with my Mac Plus. It is extremely
simple, with one MIDI in and one MIDI out. It does not require an
external power supply. It comes with a DB9 connector, so you do need
an adaptor (DB9 to DIN8). The key point, though, is that it does not
need the +5 volt pin that the new connectors don't have. I guess it
powers itself directly from the signals. It operates at 1 MHz, is
about 2 inches by 5 inches, and comes with two MIDI cables. I use it
with Megatrack XL, Sound Designer, DMCS, etc. I bought it bundled with
Megatrack so I'm not sure how much it sells for.

I recommend it if you want a simple, hassle-free, power-free
interface. Now that I just got a second keyboard, I'm starting to miss
the 2nd set of ins and outs which the Opcode interface, for example,
    has.

    The model number is MH-01M.
