[comp.sys.mac] Disk performance with SE and Plus

I recently had a Mac SE to play with and compared it with my Mac+. I have
a Dataframe XP40 that I connected to the SE with no problems. (By the way,
Autoblack worked fine, although the first time I used it on the SE, it did
leave an extra clock stuck on the screen.) I decided to do disk timings using
Disk Timer II which comes with the Dataframe to compare the SE to the Plus, and
to compare the two System/Finders that I had available. The test was performed
by plugging the same XP40 into each of the Macs to make the environment
identical. The disk was running with Initializer 2.5. The numbers shown
below are the figures that came from Disk Timer II.

Macintosh Plus with Dataframe XP40, System 3.2, Finder 5.3

		Read	Write	Access
Trial 1:	52	55	16
Trial 2:	52	55	16

Macintosh Plus with Dataframe XP40, System 4.0, Finder 5.4

		Read	Write	Access
Trial 1:	55	67	17
Trial 2:	55	60	19

Macintosh SE with Dataframe XP40, System 3.2, Finder 5.3

		Read	Write	Access
Trial 1:	76	52	16
Trial 2:	77	52	16

Macintosh SE with Dataframe XP40, System 4.0, Finder 5.4

		Read	Write	Access
Trial 1:	86	87	16
Trial 2:	85	88	19

It would seem that the SE SCSI interface is slower than the Mac+, and that
the newer System also has a slower driver than System 3.2. I only had the
SE for a short time, but with these results, I was more than willing to give it
up. I decided to keep the newer System, though, since it wasn't significantly
worse on the Plus. Has anyone else had these results?
