Here's how to make MS-Word crash. Actually, it's a way to make Switcher crash, but since Switcher 5.5 is distributed with Word 3.0, it's just as bad. I'm using a Mac SE with 1 MB of RAM and a 20 MB internal drive, System 4.1/Finder 5.3, cache set at 128K. -- Open Switcher 5.5. -- Select "Configure, then install," and select Word 3.0. It's distributed with the memory defaults at 416K preferred, 256K minimum. -- Try to set the memory options to 512K preferred, 256K minimum, and click "Permanent." You'll get a "There's not enough memory to to that!" error. The Info window shows over 600K available, though. -- Now, select "Configure, then install" again. The memory options are now 128K preferred and 128K minimum. Installing Word this way also gives a "not enough memory" error! -- Better yet, try selecting "Configure, then install" once again. This time, set the memory to be 416K preferred, 256K minimum. Click "Permanent." -- Ka-BOOM. The screen freezes, the display does strange things, and it might even make the ticking "I'm about to self-destruct" sound it makes when it really crashes bad. Hit the reset button. (No, I don't think the debugger works either.) I can no longer install Word 3.0 using Switcher 5.5, because this happens every time I try. Anyone know what's going on? -Greg -- Greg Brail UniPress Software UUCP: {everywhere}!rutgers!topaz.rutgers.edu!brail Work: (201)985-8000 New-style domain stuff: brail@topaz.rutgers.edu Home: (201)846-3013
