[comp.sys.mac] Apple's Usenet writers

ericson@uiucdcsp.cs.uiuc.edu (06/05/87)

I think its about time we thank all those Apple people who generously
try to help and supply information (as much as their allowed! :-)
to USEnet. They help to make Apple the kind of company we all want to
buy computers from. This is the kind of thing we always cry out for,
and I'm glad for what we get. Your contributions have *REALLY* been
appreciated by a 2-year veteran reader of comp.sys.mac (and its previous
names)

THANKS, GUYS!!

to help us)

I'd like to second that. In addition to its official support of
dealers, developers and AUC members through AppleLink and MCI,
Apple employees have recently become more visible on Usenet and
on other electronic BBS's (David Goldsmith has been helping those
of us on Bix).

Although I can only guess, Apple Computer under John Sculley and
Jean-Louis Gassee has become a much more open and responsive company,
as well as one that has demonstrated sound business sense. My guess
is that this attitude of openness has extended to semi-official
encouragement of such activities.

Nonetheless, it's clear that these postings are largely the contributions
of the personal time of several individuals. Larry Rosenstein has been
carrying the load for a long time, but has been recently joined by several
others, each of whom seems to have a special expertise.

Their postings add tremendously to the quality of the net and also prevent
the promulgation of inaccuracies, and I'm sure everyone is grateful for their
help.

"dgold" is David Goldsmith.
"tecot" is Ed Tecot.

The following people from Apple have also contributed to usenet:

That's me, Ed Tecot (look at the Reply-To field). I've been around for quite
a while. Some of you might remember me as tecot@CMU-CS-K.ARPA (before the
domain name change).

Ole'.

I haven't seen too many companies come clean with their products, matter
of fact - no other. It's refreshing not to parle with a hyped up salesman.

Thankyou.

I'll drink to that. Bartender, another Kool-Aid!!! I just feel sorry for those
of us who don't have access to Usenet or one of the other supported BBS's.
I am also very grateful for access to the Net.
