I am contemplating the purchase of an SE, and the prospect of 30MB of internal disk storage is attractive. The most reasonably priced contender seems to be Warp9, with the P30i drive priced at $649, if you return the upper 800K floppy to them. The drive itself is made by Fuji, and Warp9 claims an average seek time of 58ms. The drive uses a stepper motor. (Interestingly, Mirror Technologies is selling a similar drive, also a Fuji stepper motor unit, and they said the average seek time would be about 38-40ms. They may have been pulling my leg?) Anyway, does anybody have any experience with Warp9, Small Fuji drives of any kind, any feelings about this drive vs. the Rodime 20mb that Apple would like to put in my (as yet unpurchased) SE...etc etc??? Also, does anyone know what the Apple policy will be on these 3rd party drives in the machine, as far as AppleCare goes? Will I still be able to buy AppleCare? How much does AppleCare for the SE cost, anyway? Our campus bookstore has wonderful consortium prices on the hardware, but they don't, as yet, sell AppleCare. I know the only approved 3rd party drive for the Plus is the Hyperdrive, but the description of the installation process in the Warp9 advertisement seems fairly tame. No soldering, just bolt it in. Will the policy be relaxed for the "Open" SE? How about if I get an Apple dealer to put the drive in, or watch me do it, or?? Thanks for any response.
