[comp.sys.mac] MacBottom 20 and System 4.1

About a month ago I posted an article in which I described some
data-reliability problems in my 20Mb serial-port MacBottom. It
would work, but reads were randomly returning corrupted data.
I eliminated my Mac's hardware as the source of the problem,
leaving either software or the MB hardware as the culprit. I
suspected that the problem was caused by something which changed
in System 4.1 (which I had recently installed).

PCPC's technical support advised me that I needed version 2.9 of
their startup software (I was using version 2.7). They had me send
a certified check for $15 and a note describing my problem. It took
a few weeks (and a couple of additional telephone calls), but I
finally received version 2.91.

I was mistaken in my assumption that something in System 4.1 was
responsible for my problems. Before I switched to 4.1 I had been
using good old reliable System 3.1.1. Apparently there was a
change between 3.1.1 and 3.2 which broke the MacBottom 2.7 software.
(The MacBottom Startup 2.91 disc comes with System 3.2.)

Anyway, now that I'm using version 2.91 of the startup software
with System 4.1, all of my data-reliability problems have gone away.
Perhaps this posting can save some other MB owner a little bit of
grief.
